In March, Author Mentor Match opens to submissions for YA/MG writers with completed manuscripts. The program—AMM for short—matches unpublished writers with published and pre-published authors as part of a mentorship program.
VAULT OF WAYWARD STARS
Young Adult Fantasy
Feared and hated even by those closest to her for her control over illegal shadow-magic, seventeen-year-old Zero has been climbing the ranks of the criminal underworld since she was a child. When she is offered a nearly impossible heist, she’s certain it will secure her position as Thief Queen. Finally, she’ll have enough money to build her gang and overthrow the those in charge of the laws that condemn her.
But her heist becomes complicated when she accidentally breaks the curse on Jordyn, a young man who has been missing for three years. Bound to him by the magic she released and unable to leave his side without causing them both excruciating pain, Zero discovers that not only is Jordyn a lord’s son, he’s also the rumoured heir to the throne. Now the same people who cursed Jordyn to overthrow his family, are out to kill Zero. And to make matters worse, she begins falling for the arrogant lordling when he becomes the only person to see Zero as anything other than a monster.
While searching for a way to break their bond, Zero uncovers a deeper plot hidden within those holding power, and even within her own family. They plan to exterminate those without magic, and they need Jordyn’s life to perform the spell. Now she has a choice: leave the shadows, use her illegal magic, and sentence herself to exile to save the life of the young man she has come to love, or slip away to protect herself, and claim her rightful position as Thief Queen.
Basically, a thief accidentally binds herself to a young man who is the key to exterminating the human population.
A bit of bad luck really ;-P
VAULT OF WAYWARD STARS has a diverse cast and #ownvoices representation of bisexual characters. I believe it will appeal to all you awesome people out there that enjoyed SIX OF CROWS and A SHADOW BRIGHT AND BURNING. I’m hoping that a mentor will help me take it that step closer to being everything that it could be, and I’m so excited to start work on it again.
AND! Here is a novel aesthetics collage that I put together:
This year I’ll be entering Author Mentor Match for the very first time with a never been queried before MS. My name is Dannielle Wicks, I live in a country town in Queensland, Australia, and I have a couple of books published by a small press in the USA. I feel that Author Mentor Match will help me level up, and pursue my traditional publishing dream. I can’t wait to meet you all. Revising is my absolute favourite part of novel writing–I love pulling something apart and stitching it back up into a story that is worthy. I would be a hard working and positive mentee, filled with bad jokes and an intense love for all things writing and craft.
Last year after #Pitchwars, a very talented and wonderful author offered to help me revise the MS I entered and failed to get in with. We pulled it apart and totally reworked it. It was the absolute best experience I’ve had in my writing career, and while that MS didn’t garner as much attention as we’d wanted, I really hope to get the opportunity to do it again with my newest creation!
During the day I spend my time flying RPA’s (drone’s) and fixing computers for our local government. I’ve been working in IT for nearly 6 years now, and LOVE it. In my off hours I like to ponder cars and gardening, all while spending time with my adorable pups. From the age of eleven, I raced a speedway sedan in the dirt track circuit here in southern QLD. I was sorted into Gryffindor, which feels weird, because I don’t usually see myself as brave or daring. But the Sorting Hat knows best 🙂
I identify as a bi and hope to one day write and read about many characters that reflect my identity and those of the diverse community.
Oh gosh! I really can’t wait to see all the other Bio’s and meet all the wonderful people participating! Good luck out there, and if you feel so inclined, drop me a line here, or find me on Twitter! @danniellewicks
